McCullough Institute is the training division of Mount Beauty Neighbourhood Centre Inc. (MTBNCI) MTBNCI is a Neighbourhood House located at the foothills of the Bogong High Plains and the Victorian Snowfields in North East Victoria. McCullough Institute also provides many adult education opportunities to the local community including; Computer courses, languages, photography, and cooking and much more. McCullough Institute also addresses the need for tourism and hospitality training given our proximity to the Victorian Snow Fields and other tourist destinations in North East Victoria offering Certificate II in Hospitality and Responsible Service of Alcohol. Very rarely do students need to attend traditional classroom based tutorials or lectures. Gap training is provided in a number of ways including; on the job challenge tasks or assignments, online webinars or workshops. In most cases students are assessed in the workplace; evidence is collected through a combination of interviews and sighting of work undertaken. Delivery is tailored to the individual needs of the student and is one on one with the assessor. It aims firstly to recognise existing knowledge/skills and secondly fill any remaining gaps. McCullough Institute now offers the following nationally recognised qualifications under its scope of registration: Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management Advanced Diploma of Management, Diploma of Community Development Diploma of Management Diploma of Project Management Certificate IV in Community Development Certificate II in Hospitality McCullough Institute has developed a unique and innovative approach to Recognition of Prior Learning which targets those already working in various community sector roles. 2010 Victorian Adult Community Education Awards Finalist – Outstanding ACE Organisation Since then approximately 50 students from the Neighbourhood House and Allied Health sectors, Local Government, and Department of Planning and Community Development have successfully completed diplomas under Yvonne’s expert guidance, with another 35 currently enrolled. 2009 Winner – Innovation in Training and Assessment – Recognising Competency, in partnership with Wodonga Institute of TAFE awarded by Community Services and Health Industry Training Awards. So successful was this pilot program that our organisation won 3 major industry awards; 2009 Victorian Training Awards Finalist for the Victorian Small Training Provider of the Year Award. Our CEO Yvonne Evans began training and mentoring other neighbourhood house coordinators and managers in 2009 with a pilot program delivering the Diploma of Community Education, Diploma of Community Development and Diploma of Project Management.
